After two and a half years of extension and renovation work, the Palais Galliera is reopening its doors. To celebrate the occasion, this Paris fashion museum is presenting the first French retrospective to be dedicated to the fashion designer Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel. To make the experience complete, why not stay in the equally unparalleled setting offered by the Hotel du Continent so you can view the ‘Coco’ collections at your leisure?

Discover Chanel through her legendary creations

Until March 14th, 2021, the magnificently refurbished Palais Galliera is offering an exhibition dedicated to the fashion icon Gabrielle Chanel (1883-1971), entitled Gabrielle Chanel; Fashion Manifesto. The retrospective to which the City of Paris Fashion Museum invites you is comprised of more than 350 items drawn from national and foreign collections.

The first part of the retrospective is arranged chronologically and invites you to follow the progression of Chanel's style from the early days of her career. You will see such iconic items as the famous marinière sailor top dating from the summer of 1916, and lesser-known creations including a hat created by Chanel between 1913 and 1915. Also on show will be those sophisticated evening dresses that became the height of fashion in the 30s, and you can see through 10 photo portraits how Chanel herself embodied her brand.

Decipher the dress codes of a visionary designer

The second part of the retrospective is arranged thematically and gives you the opportunity to decipher all the dress codes of the great designer and brand founder: the braided tweed suit, the 2.55 quilted bag, the two-tone shoes, etc, as well as the fine jewellery that was an integral part of the Chanel look.

Gabrielle Chanel's vision of haute-couture and fashion is the epitome of timeless stylishness. Immerse yourself in her remarkable world at the Palais Galliera.
